Develop self, grow in skill & Trust God.

By Joanita Drazuru Kayonga

One can not lead self or achieve a purpose if one is not aware of who they truly are intrinsically. The good, bad and ugly. It’s important to be aware of one strengths and weaknesses with the purpose of working on the weaknesses and improving the strengths. One of the basic ingredients of leadership as stated by Warren Bennis, a leadership coach and author, is integrity, which one can’t truly develop without self knowledge. It is also pointless to know oneself and then have nothing to do with the information. Having a guiding vision, a reason for is vital. This means one knows where they’re going, why and are willing to figure out how to achieve their goal.

Becoming truly self aware is the first step to taking charge of one’s own life. Away from all the societal factors that have shaped ones thought, there’s a chance to think about, pursue and establish what one believes they were born to do, breaking free from the obedience to other’s previous thoughts and plans for them.

The Bible tells us mankind was made in the image of God and given instructions to multiply and fill the world. We’re given dominion which tells me that we each have purpose from our creator to occupy, establish and achieve something in His grand scheme. It’s important to search self and discover what gifts and attributes God has given us and how we can develop them to be able to achieve his purpose and plan for us. David is a good example of a person who was self aware but he was also equipped to face a challenge even the king had failed to address. Before he became king, he was fully aware of his shepherd role and committed to it. He fought lions and eventually defeated Goliath with the tools that had worked for him before. He didn’t use King Saul’s armour. He also knew it wasn’t his tools that would bring him victory but God.

So, grow in self awareness, get your skills in and trust God above these things to give you victory.
